Christmas will be true test of Emery’s Arsenal

It didn’t look to be going well at all for new Arsenal boss Unai Emery when he first poked his head out of the Emirates tunnel back in August. Back to back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea left the Gunners with zero points from their first two Premier League matches.

Criticisms were heaped at the players, mostly Wenger’s old guard rather than the manager himself or his new signings, who were thrown straight into the mix. Former Arsenal man turned pundit Martin Keown called it a much needed reality check, although any reasonable Arsenal fan will be well aware that a change of regime takes time to implement.

Forward’s agent speaks out amid Arsenal transfer speculation

Arda Turan’s representative has insisted that his client is not going anywhere amid the alleged verbal agreement to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

A recent report from Haberturk suggested that the north London outfit had agreed terms with the Turkey international ahead of his £25m from Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 30-year-old joined the Catalonia-based club from Atletico Madrid back in the summer of 2015 but their transfer embargo restricted him from participation until 2016. He has since endured one of his toughest spells in professional football with former boss Luis Enrique utilising him as backup to his starting lineup. Both Neymar and Lione Messi are irreplaceable owing to their ever-growing status, and this has seen Turan earn a regular role off the substitutes’ bench.

Haberturk recently suggested that the Catalan giants had given the green light for Turan to complete his preferred move to London in the summer, but his agent Ahmet Bulut has poured cold water to the speculation by suggesting that the attacker is happy where he is, he told AS:

Theo Walcott has been omitted from the provisional England squad

Theo Walcott has been omitted from the provisional England squad for the Euro 2016, but this news will not come as a major surprise to the player according to Alan Smith.

Walcott has been struggling for game time at Arsenal especially in the second half of the 2015-16 season. There have been heavy rumours about Walcott being prepared to leave Arsenal in the summer with even Arsene Wenger admitting that the future of England international at the Emirates stadium was not certain. Wenger promised Walcott a role as the central striker when he was persuaded to sign a new four-year contract in 2015.

Now with only three years left on his existing deal, Arsenal are reportedly considering cashing in on the player. Walcott remains a saleable asset as he is only 27 years old. Even the player will feel confident about featuring for the England national team at a major tournament before the end of his career. Even though he has made 43 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2006, he has played in very little major tournaments. Walcott has been forced out of rage tournaments like the World Cup 2014 because of injuries. He was last seen in the Euro 2012 making an impact as a substitute.

Paul Merson has come down hard on Arsene Wenger

Paul Merson has come down hard on Arsene Wenger saying that he has got to win the Premiership at any cost to earn the right to stay in his job.

According to Merson, in case the Gunners fail to become the Champions, it would be hard for Wenger to make a justification to the supporters as to why he didn’t go for the new signings at all last summer.

Merson is also of the opinion that it’s no big deal for a manager to guide Arsenal to top 4 as the squad is good enough to do it itself. There is no astuteness on the part of Wenger in making that happen.

Speaking on television, the Englishman, who played for the Gunners for a long time, from the mid eighties to the late nineties, said, “Arsene Wenger shouldn’t remain in charge if the weaker rivals beat Arsenal to the title.”

“I mean ahead of the season, you come and say there are no signings needed and then, you can’t go past a couple of weaker oppositions to the title. You would just not be able to justify that.”

Arsenal falling out of Premier League race

Arsenal’s recent Premier League results have been disappointing to say the least as Arsene Wenger’s players have had to settle with draws against Southampton, Liverpool and Stoke City while suffering a defeat against Chelsea in their league matches of January.

Out of these 4 matches, Arsenal had the possibility of collecting a total of 12 points but only gathered 3 points which is a huge amount of points that were dropped and allowed Leicester City on being able to secure the top spot of the English League.

Arsenal ‘gunning’ for the top spot

>Last Sunday’s 3-0 hammering of Manchester United may have surprised even the most optimistic of Arsenal fans, but regardless of that what it has done is leave us sitting nicely in second place in the Premier League, with Manchester City only two points ahead.

The international break may have come at a rather annoying time, as you can be sure the players and manager would have been revved up ready to go at Watford this weekend, using the momentum built on last Sunday’s win – instead the Gunners have to wait until Saturday, October 18th, to get their chance to take down Watford and potentially go top.
