Wenger denies Vucinic move

Arsene Wenger has played down talk Arsenal are closing in on signing Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic. While Wenger has made no secret over the fact the club are looking to sign a striker following Theo Walcott’s season-ending injury, although the Gunners boss has denied Vucinic set for an imminent move to the Emirates, despite the Juventus forward being backed by plenty of Betfair fans to be on his way to the Premier League.

Vucinic has struggled for regular playing time at Juve this year, making just four Serie A appearances this season, scoring twice. The 30-year old has reportedly been told he can leave the club during this January transfer window, with a possible loan move to Arsenal long mooted by Betfair to happen. Wenger, however, denied a deal was close, admitting he was still looking at the options available to him.

“We are looking at potential possibilities for us to get someone in, but we are not especially in for Vucinic, Some people have visual capacities that I don’t have. We are not on any special case. I would love to announce something that would excite, but I don’t have the possibility to do it.”

The Gunners know signing a new forward could well be the difference between the club maintaining their title challenge throughout the second half of the season or ending up behind Manchester City and Chelsea, who are both still tipped to finished above Arsenal with Betfair.com.

While Olivier Giroud has been impressive this season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions and leading the line very well, the Frenchman has almost run himself into the ground for the team and has already begun to show signs of fatigue.

With time running out in this transfer window, Wenger will be hoping to bolster his attacking options ahead of a crucial few months. That is, unless Wenger is confident Nicklas Bendtner can lead the team to the title when he returns from injury.
